Our Behaviors That Hurt social story book covers some common bad behaviors that children may display.
As parents, caregivers, and teachers we know that children can sometimes struggle with their emotions and actions. They might bite, hit, or kick others when they feel upset or frustrated, which can be distressing for both the child and those around them. This is where our social story can help!
It is a short social story that uses simple language and engaging illustrations to teach children about the impact of their actions and provides them with some calming techniques they can try when they feel frustrated or angry.
Each page of the book targets a different behavior. The behaviors include biting, hitting, pushing, pinching, pulling hair, and kicking.
Example:
Hands are not for pushing.
Ouch! Pushing hurts.
Hands are for. . .
writing, waving, hugging, snapping
Page 8 - Review what you should never do & why.
Page 9 - Provides nine calming techniques they can try to help them calm down.
We have also included 24 picture cards that you can laminate and put on a ring to use as a visual reminder of bad behaviors and calming techniques.
List of picture cards: no biting, no pulling hair, no hitting, no pinching, no pushing, no kicking, talk to someone, deep breaths, bounce on ball, squeeze ball, listen to music, count to 10, happy thoughts, take a walk, take a break, get a drink, write in journal, and read a book.
This social story book is 8 1/2 x 11 with 9 pages + 24 picture cards (3 1/4 x 3 1/4)
both with editable text.
The old version of this social story is also included and the text is editable.
I recommended you print this book on heavy card stock and use thick lamination then bind the pages together with coil, comb binding, or rings. You could also slip the pages into sheet protectors and insert them into a notebook.
I have included a ZIP file with a PDF and PowerPoint version along with a Microsoft Word document. Please make sure you have one of these programs if you want to edit the text.
